Breaking News: Hiroya Tsukamoto just placed second in the International Fingerstyle Guitar Competition at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, KS

The Prism Coffeehouse is delighted to announce the return of Japanese finger style guitar virtuoso Hiroya Tsukamoto, an innovative guitarist and composer fusing folk, jazz, and world music. Born and raised in Japan, in 2000 he received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.

“In terms of musicianship, Tsukamoto’s guitar work was just ridiculous. Right from the beginning of his first song, it was obvious that the folks in Bernunzio’s were in for a treat. His brand of fingerstyle guitar is so intricate, and so blazingly fast at the same time, I kept imagining how many clones I would need to make of myself to accurately replicate his sound. One song that drove that point home was his set opener, “From Coast to Coast,” a song that had some of the fastest harmonic runs I’ve heard,” wrote Trevor Lewis of the Rochester City News.

Tsukamoto’s instrumental abilities are indeed breathtaking and astounding, but his performances are so much more than that. He has the unique capability of engaging an audience through a personable and genuine approach that transfixes his audience and transcends his abilities as a guitarist. Audience members will be mesmerized; Tsukamoto plays with an effortless skill on the guitar and has a repertoire that will have you traveling the world, not to mention experiencing new sounds with his own compositions.

Tsukamoto has headlined concerts throughout the U.S. as well as internationally, including the Blue Note in NYC and on Japanese National Television. He has released six albums as a band leader.
