The Prism Coffeehouse and WTJU are proud to present one of the very few bands that play both of the two most iconic music festivals here on the east coast – New Orleans Jazz Fest and MerleFest. But those are two stops for Prince Edward’s Island’s own The East Pointers on this year’s busy spring tour! This reflects not only the diversity, but the outstanding musicianship possessed by this truly unique ensemble.
The East Pointers are fiddler/singer Tim Chaisson, banjoist Koady Chaisson, and guitarist Jake Charron. Collectively they are making some of the most original, hippest, new roots music. They have connected with audiences across the globe as one most vibrant things happening.
The Juno award winning band’s second CD What We Leave Behind released late last year has found wide acceptance and solid airplay not only on traditional and folk radio, but also pop and rock stations around the world. It was produced by by superstar songwriter and producer Gordie Sampson.
“Traditional music has always been at the core of what we do as a band.” says Jake Charron. “There’s something powerful about a style of music that had been passed on for generations around the world.” A new take on this tradition is evident in the spry “Party Wave,” inspired by a thrilling surfing experience the band enjoyed in New Zealand, on of the many countriesThe East Pointers visited during 10 months of touring last year. The tunes written on the road last year take you on a journey, constantly building with excitement!
